English Proficiency in Applications to Graduate Programs / METU Announcements

Dear Students,

In accordance with the decision of the Middle East Technical University Senate dated 11 November 2025, it has been resolved that candidates applying to graduate programs who, as of the date of application, fall within the last four semesters:

a. have graduated from an undergraduate or graduate program of our University, or

b. have held student status for at least one semester in one of our University’s graduate programs, provided that they meet the EPE score specified by the relevant Graduate School of the program to which they are applying,

will not be required to re-submit documentation of their English proficiency.

1. ALES score type have to be "quantitative".
2. The ALES-GRE conversion table (old/new) can be found at fbe.metu.edu.tr.
3. Two (2) reference letters are required. 
    • For Master's Program applications, reference letters are not required only for the graduates of our department.
    • For Ph.D. Program applications (including our department's graduates), two reference letters are required, one of which must be obtained from the Master's Thesis Advisor.
    • For Ph.D. on B.S. applications (including our department's graduates), two reference letters are required. 
4. Letter of intention (included in the online form).
5. If CGPA > 2.50, ALES score should be minumum of 70.
6. If CGPA in between 2.30 and 2.50, ALES score should be minimum of 75.
7. For Ph.D. program applications, both undergraduate and graduate transcripts are required.
